Every weekend, the Liloan town plaza becomes alive and abuzz with local food vendors selling all sorts of delicious Cebuano delights. Folks who want to go swimming up Cebu’s gorgeous northern beaches usually drop by Liloan to stock up on food.
Here are some of the must-try Liloan treats that will tickle your palate, fill your tummy, and awaken the culinary explorer in you.
1. Lechon
Cebuanos are known for having the best, perfectly prepared lechon in the country. Cebu’s lechon has the crispiest skin and the juiciest, most savory meat.
2. Inasal na Manok
Not into pork? Then have a taste of delicious, juicy chicken that is slowly roasted and flavored with a secret mixture of herbs, oils, and spices.
3. Grilled seafood
Don’t miss Liloan’s healthy and tasty grilled squid and fish. You would love the smoky taste especially if paired with a simple dipping sauce made of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili.
4. Fresh coconuts
It is Nature’s Gatorade but ten times better and more refreshing than the commercial brand! One fresh coconut provides a complete, healthy meal.
5. Fresh fruits
Healthy and sweet, fresh fruits are great desserts after every meal.
6. Masi

8. Budbud
Budbud is a sweet concoction of sticky rice cooked in coconut milk and sugar then wrapped in banana leaves. It’s a traditional Cebuano dessert and afternoon snack that is best paired with slices of ripe mango and hot chocolate.
9. Kamote
Feast on Liloan’s yummy and very affordable sweet potato.
10. Ginamos
Its strong, stinky smell combined with an extremely salty taste is repulsive to the uninitiated. But for most Cebuanos, the thought of tiny anchovies swimming in very strong brine is enough to make the mouth water. It is typically used as a dip for kamote, boiled banana, and many others.
11. Swaki
Swaki is a delightful blend of sea urchin guts and entrails that are packed inside Tanduay bottles. Locals usually eat this with puso, or hanging rice.
12. Bat
No, they’re not the flying kind. Bat or balat is the Cebuano term for fresh sea cucumber. It is mixed with vinegar, onion, garlic, ginger, salt and pepper. Trust us, it tastes really great!
13. Green Mango
Sour, juicy, and crunchy, this is one Cebuano treat is perfect after a big, hearty meal.
14. Hipon
This salty shrimp paste brings the flavor of virtually any foodstuff to another level. Use it as a dipping sauce for your green mango, deep fry it and spread it on your rice, or use it as an ingredient in your kare-kare. The possibilities are endless!
15. Ice Candy

Tip: Get to the Liloan food market at around 7 or 8 in the morning to avoid the heavy traffic and to have the freshest food available.
