Today I trekked to the mountain barangay of San Roque to inaugurate a footbridge that traverses over a river.
I walked across the concrete bridge with Nanay Elpedia Marikit. I was introduced to her last year by her daughter who said that Nanay Elpedia had accidentally fallen off the dilapidated bamboo bridge that they used to take to cross the river. Thankfully, she fully recovered from her injuries.
As we approached the other side of the bridge, Nanay Elpedia smiled and said to me, "Dili na gyud peligro akong paglabang sa sapâ, Day." (Crossing the river is no longer dangerous for me, Day.)
Construction on the footbridge started during Mayor Duke Frasco Liloan's term and I'm happy to see it to its completion today.
