I am so happy and humbled to share that Liloan was awarded the number 1 Best Performing Local Government Unit (LGU) in the Province of Cebu by the Cebu Provincial Government under the Sugbo Kontra Droga (SUKOD) Program. This is the second year in a row that Liloan has clinched this award.
On my first day on the job and days thereafter, I encountered a multitude of drug surrenderees and quickly realized that the LGU had to act proactively to turn the drug crisis into a positive opportunity for change.
Thus, I convened our Municipal Drug Abuse Council and we launched OPERATION SECOND CHANCE which provides free livelihood, counselling, job opportunities and health services to drug surrenderees in exchange for community service. In the months that have followed, we have taken the campaign to the grassroots and formed teams to visit and monitor each of our Barangays. We are set to have our first batch of graduates by the end of the year.
With the great support of the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Duke Frasco, we have been able to pass vital legislation to institutionalize our anti-illegal drug programs, and measures to protect our youth against this scourge.
We have augmented our police and public safety resources to maintain security and deter criminality. We have also implemented a massive information drive against drugs in communities and schools.
In addition to being chosen as the No. 1 LGU in Cebu, the Liloan Police Station was awarded number 3 in the Province, and Barangay Poblacion was chosen as one of the Best Performing Barangays. Liloan's Pag-Asa Youth Organization of the Philippines (PYAP) was also awarded the Most Outstanding Youth Organization in Cebu.
This meaningful milestone under my administration has been the product of the hard work of our team in Liloan composed of our MADAC, department managers, police, health and safety personnel, in close coordination with our Sanggunian, Barangay Captains, and officials. The success in the implementation of our programs is also owed to the great support and response of Liloanons to our efforts against illegal drugs.
Thank you to everyone for your hard work when I asked for that extra mile, your patience when I put the pressure on, and your dedication to our vision and ideals for Liloan!
